Montana State to host high-tech employer panels and networking event Feb. 22

Montana State University’s Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering and the Montana High Tech Business Alliance are partnering to celebrate National Engineers Week and raise awareness of Montana job opportunities with an event on Feb. 22 on the MSU campus.

Students and faculty are invited to attend two panels featuring high-tech Montana businesses, which will followed by a networking reception. Attendance is free but advance registration is required. Both events will take place in Inspiration Hall in Norm Asbjornson Hall and will also be livestreamed.

The first panel, “Innovation and Entrepreneurship at MSU,” runs 2:30 to 4 p.m. The panel will feature MSU faculty and alumni and who have recently launched startups:

•    Sam Atkins, MSU ’14, president and co-founder of Foothold, a Butte-based business that builds sustainable and affordable prefabricated housing.

•    Anja Kunze, associate professor in MSU’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and co-founder of NanoMagnetic Solutions, which develops advanced tools that use magnetic forces for gene editing.

•    Brock LaMeres, professor in MSU’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and founder of Resilient Computing, which makes radiation-tolerant computing technology for satellites and spacecraft.

The second panel, “How to Get Tech Jobs and Internships in Montana,” runs from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Leaders from some of Montana's top tech employers will share what they do, who they hire and how MSU students can be successful in finding a job or internship with their company. Speakers include:

•    Shawna Alexander, engineering senior manager of aerospace company Boeing in Helena.

•    John Suh, founding director of Hyandai New Horizons Studio, which is opening a new research and development lab to design high-mobility vehicles.

•    Tony Rosanova, president and chief technology officer of Zoot Enterprises, a global software company providing origination, acquisition and decision management solutions to the financial industry.

The networking session runs 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Inspiration Hall. Students and faculty will have the opportunity to meet tech employers, and snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.
