Corvallis Middle School and Hamilton High School emerged victorious at the state Science Olympiad tournament held on March 4 at Montana State University. These schools will now advance to the national competition hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on May 23-24, where students have the opportunity to win awards and cash scholarships.

The event saw participation from over 70 middle and high school teams across Montana, who competed in various scientific disciplines such as astronomy, meteorology, and chemistry. The students also had the chance to explore MSU labs and classrooms, gaining insights into topics like immersive artificial intelligence and plant research.

More than 350 medals and certificates were awarded to individual event winners. Team trophies were distributed across different divisions:

In Division B for middle schools, Corvallis Middle School, Hamilton Middle School, and North Middle School from Great Falls received trophies. In the small schools division of Division B, Choteau Junior High, Headwaters Academy in Bozeman, and Belt Middle School were recognized.

For Division C covering high schools, Hamilton High School, Capital High School in Helena, and Corvallis High School took home trophies. In the small schools division of Division C, Choteau High School, Belt High School, and Superior High School were honored.

Since its inception in 1985, the Montana Science Olympiad has been hosted by MSU's Science Math Resource Center within the Department of Education. It stands as one of the largest STEM competitions nationwide with participation from over 6,300 teams annually across all 50 states.
