A training on the improvement of southern Montana’s passenger rail service will be offered virtually amid the spread of COVID-19, according to the Missoula County blog.
The Montana Passenger Rail Summit is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17.
Elected officials, government workers, business, and tourism employees are welcome to attend the event, along with those who want to learn more about improving the rail system in the area.
So far, 10 speakers are confirmed, including Boise City Council President Elain Clegg, Missoula councilman Jordan Hess, Montana House Rep. Andera Olsen, and Transportation for America chairman John-Robert Smith.
“Restoring passenger rail service to southern Montana would be transformative for the state — economically, socially and environmentally,” Missoula County Commissioner Dave Strohmaier, who will also serve as a speaker, said, according to the Missoula County blog. “As we recover from the effects of COVID-19, it’s more critical than ever to make smart transportation investments that further community resiliency. Passenger rail is key to realizing that vision, and there is no reason why Montana shouldn’t be a leader in making this a reality.”
