Montana State University will host the Montana Mathematics Circle summer camp from July 14-17, inviting middle and high school students with an interest in advanced mathematics. The event will take place on the MSU campus and is designed for students entering grades six through ten. Daily sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Participants will engage in various math problem-solving activities, visit university laboratories, and participate in STEM-related exercises. The camp operates as a daycamp but offers housing options for those coming from outside the area. Tuition costs $220, covering lunch and snacks each day.
The Science Math Resource Center at MSU is organizing the camp. Olivia Firth, program coordinator with the center, noted that "the Science Math Resource Center hosts these online exams in person each year for Montana students," referring to the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) by the Mathematical Association of America.
Firth highlighted that three former participants of MSU's summer math camp excelled in this year's AMC 8 competition: Yura Trilisky from Sacajawea Middle School took first place, Owen Dinkins from Headwaters Academy secured second place, and Ben Elkins also from Sacajawea Middle School came third.
