The U.S. Senate has passed a resolution honoring the “bravery, sacrifice and heroism” of firefighters and first responders who fight wildfires in Montana and other states.

It also honors firefighters who were killed this fire season, including Tom Duffy and Sara Madsen of Montana.

“Montana’s wild land firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities and families from devastating wildfires, and this was a devastating fire season,” said U.S. Sen. Steve Daines (R-MN), sponsor of the bipartisan resolution.

Western wildfires killed 35 people killed and destroyed 4,000 properties destroyed, Daines said. More than 30,000 firefighters and members and military personnel were used to contain the blazes, Daines said.

"I will always stand with our firefighters and first responders, and will continue working to ensure they have the resources and tools they need each fire season,” Daines said in a statement.
