An executive order signed by Gov. Steve Bullock on Oct. 23 will allow Montana sugar beet farmers to increase their weight limits on transportation vehicles. This move has been done to allow timely harvesting of sugar beets across the state despite early winter storms that have impaired harvesting.
MTN News reported that the increased weight limit from 20% per axel to 30% per axel will be in effect through November. The order, which comes in the middle of sugar beet harvest season, will help Montana ensure that the early winter conditions in the region will not pummel the entire sugar beet harvest and will protect a vital economic resource for the state.
“As our producers work hard around the clock, we need to make sure we have their backs in order to get beets on trucks and ensure that Montana ag remains a backbone of our economy," Bullock said in quote obtained by MTN News.
