Montana State University's student government, known as the Associated Students of MSU, recently conducted its general election for the upcoming 2025-26 academic year. A total of 1,824 students participated, comprising an 11% turnout rate.
The election concluded with the following results. For the presidency, Lenny Triem and Finn Growney were announced winners with 1,591 votes. In the College of Agriculture, Kate Johnson and Stella Rapson secured the two senator positions with 152 and 140 votes, respectively.
In the College of Arts and Architecture, Jaylyn Thaut was elected senator with 51 votes. The Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship saw the election of Zachary Meyers and Josey Blazer with 111 and 110 votes, respectively.
Jillian Persicke and Rebekah Storlie emerged as senators from the College of Education, Health and Human Development with 91 and 88 votes. The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering selected four senators: Hannah Ferguson (315 votes), Brynn Nelson (303 votes), Nathan Heiland (281 votes), and Maksym Makarchuk (267 votes).
The College of Letters and Science had four winners: Isabel Watson (283 votes), Molly Forney (275 votes), Sadie Jenkins (262 votes), and Emelia Wood (243 votes). For the Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing, Mia Vroman was elected with 31 votes.
The at-large senator positions were filled by Blake Lindemann, Walter Scheldorf, Jonah Metz, Gavin Thorson, and Lizzie Ferrall, receiving over 1,000 votes each.
The ballot presented several measures. A proposal to create a mandatory student fee for Strand Union Building renovations was rejected by 1,358 votes to 470. A measure to remove the defunct Senate Judiciary Committee succeeded with 998 affirmative votes. A change to reduce the signature threshold for petitions barely passed with 809 votes in favor.
Another measure to remove certain duties from the Senate speaker pro tempore was approved by 1,055 votes. The election also endorsed incorporating the MSU Exponent's publication board into the ASMSU Constitution with 1,119 votes. Lastly, amending the ASMSU Constitution to include the Registered Student Organization Funding Board was approved with 1,265 votes.
