Seven weeks ago, Yellowstone National Park closed to tourists due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Billings Gazette, Yellowstone is one of the oldest parks in America. Yellowstone is now open to the public.
The East Entrance, which is located close to Cody, Wyoming, was one of two entrances to the park that opened on May 18. The South Entrance, which is located close to Jackson, Wyoming, also opened. The three other entrances to the park, which are located in Montana, are still closed to the public. Montana Gov. Steve Bullock said last week that the earliest he would open the entrances in Montana would be on June 1.
Matt Gibbens, who is a frequent visitor of Yellowstone National Park, entered through the East Entrance when it opened on Monday. He said it was virtually empty. He told the Billings Gazette that he usually has to circle the parking lot to find a parking place.
"I just knew that I would see something I'd never seen before: Yellowstone at its purest," Gibbens told the paper.
