Montana State’s men’s tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Utah in a match held Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City. The Bobcats saw three of their players push singles matches to three sets, but ultimately were unable to secure any victories.
Sophomore Oumar Diallo lost a close contest at No. 3 singles to Simeon Terziev, with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. At No. 4 singles, David Ismanescu fell to Lorenzo Esquici after winning the first set, ending with scores of 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. In another tight match at No. 6 singles, Eddie Biss was edged out by Charles Frey in a super tiebreaker: 5-7, 7-6 (5), 10-7.
The doubles competition began the day for Montana State. Yassin Elaroussy and Andre Stewart were defeated at the top spot by Balthazar Huss and Dante Teramo (6-3). Eddie Biss and Camille Chantron also lost at No. 2 doubles by the same score against Emmett Potter and Simeon Terziev. The third doubles match featuring Oumar Diallo and David Ismanescu was abandoned while they led 5-4.
In singles play, Elaroussy (No.1), Stewart (No.2), and Chantron (No.5) each dropped their matches in straight sets.
With this loss, Montana State’s record moves to 3-7 for the season while Utah improves to 4-9. The Bobcats are scheduled to play three matches next weekend in Boise, Idaho.
