Montana State Bobcats women’s basketball head coach Tricia Binford announced on April 15 the addition of transfer player Braeden Gunlock to the team’s roster for the 2026-27 season. Gunlock, a sophomore from Bigfork, Montana, will return to her home state after spending her freshman year at Brigham Young University.
The signing is significant as it brings an experienced and versatile athlete back to Montana. “Braeden is a versatile, athletic, fierce competitor on both ends of the floor,” Binford said. “She’s a tough Montana kid who can guard multiple positions & score in multiple ways. She can shoot the three, attack off the dribble & rebound. We love her work ethic & is a home run in culture and fit for MSU Women’s Basketball.”
During her first year at BYU under head coach Lee Cummard, Gunlock appeared in 31 games and contributed to a team record of 26-12. She scored a total of 47 points as part of a freshman class that accounted for nearly 39 percent of all points scored by BYU last season.
Gunlock’s standout performance came during an away game at Portland where she recorded eight points and five rebounds in an 87-53 victory. Over the season, she averaged just over eight minutes per game and totaled 35 rebounds before BYU ended its campaign with a loss to Columbia in the WBIT title game.
Before college, Gunlock was recognized as an accomplished multi-sport athlete at Bigfork High School where she played basketball, soccer, and track and field. She led her high school basketball team through an undefeated season culminating in the Montana Class B State Championship and earned tournament MVP honors alongside her mother and coach Cortnee Gunlock.
Gunlock will join family members back in Montana for next season while bringing experience from both high school championships and collegiate play.
