Taylee Chirrick has been recognized as both the Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year in the Big Sky Conference for the 2025-26 season. This marks the first time a Montana State University (MSU) player has earned both awards in the same year.
Chirrick, a sophomore guard, was also named to the First Team All-Big Sky, with her selection being unanimous. She was additionally chosen for the league’s All-Defensive Team. MSU forward Addison Harris joined Chirrick on the First Team All-Big Sky list.
“This is a great honor for Taylee,” said MSU coach Tricia Binford, “and she is certainly deserving. It’s an acknowledgement of all the different ways she can impact a game and a season. I’m also very happy for Addie, who had a tremendous season.”
Earlier this week, Chirrick recorded her 124th steal of the season, tying both Big Sky and MSU single-season records. She becomes the 10th Bobcat to receive Big Sky MVP honors and follows teammate Esmeralda Morales, who won last year. Other previous winners from MSU include Rallyn Freije (2019-20), Peyton Ferris (2016-17), Jasmine Hommes (2015-16), Isabel Stubbs (2002-03), Jessica Blake (2001-02), Tennyson Ballek (1998-99), Blythe Hommes (1996-97), and Cass Bauer (1992-93).
Chirrick is now one of seven Bobcats to be named Defensive Player of the Year in conference history and repeats that honor from last season. She joins Darian White (2020-21 and 2021-22), Sarah Balian (2009-10 and 2010-11), and Rebecca Albidrez (2001-02) as multi-time recipients.
