Montana State University shot putter Sydney Brewster finished 12th at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14, earning Second-Team All-America honors for her performance at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Brewster’s achievement marks her first appearance at the NCAA Championships. She recorded a top mark of 16.96 meters (55 feet, 7.75 inches) on her second throw. This result concludes a season in which she secured seven shot put victories, set four school records, broke one Big Sky record, and now adds a Second-Team All-America honor to her accomplishments.

Brewster is the second Montana State athlete to be named Second-Team All-American during the weekend, following Coey’s 11th-place finish in the long jump on Friday. “We are so proud of Sydney and Hailey for amazing indoor seasons,” Lyle Weese, Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, said. “It was fun watching them compete at one of the highest-level track & field meets in the world. Coach Jen Allen and Coach Olivia Lane have done such an amazing job of guiding these student-athletes. We are excited about what is to come from Sydney and Hailey, as well as the entire throws and jumps event groups and the rest of the track & field team.”

Brewster began with a mark of 15.72 meters (51-7) on her first attempt before achieving her best throw on her second try. Her third attempt measured 15.97 meters (52-4.75), securing her place among national competitors.

The conclusion of Saturday’s events brings an end to Montana State’s indoor track & field season. The Bobcats will begin their outdoor campaign at the Cat-Griz Dual/Al Manuel Invitational scheduled for March 27-28 at the University of Montana.
