The Sweet Grass County Election Administrator announced on Apr. 7 that trustee elections for Melville School District No. 5, Greycliff School District No. 16, and McLeod School District No. 29 have been cancelled due to an insufficient number of candidates.

The cancellation affects upcoming school board elections where the number of candidates was equal to or less than the open positions, making an election unnecessary. This action ensures that all available positions will be filled without a contested vote.

According to the official notice signed by Dawn M. Curry, “the necessary 30-day notice is hereby given that the trustee election for each of those districts is cancelled.” The affected positions include two seats at Melville School and two at McLeod School, as well as unspecified openings at Greycliff School.

Sweet Grass County advances community impact through its elected officials and departmental programs, according to the official website. The county delivers essential public services through nine elected officials and eight departments aimed at advancing community impact, according to the official website.

Local governance in Sweet Grass County operates under a Board of County Commissioners with three elected members who direct policy and administration, according to the official website. The county also provides law enforcement services throughout its jurisdiction via its Sheriff’s Office and maintains reserves for additional support, according to the official website.

This cancellation reflects standard procedure when candidate numbers do not exceed available positions in local school board races.
