A new episode of the television series “Backroads of Montana” will air at 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, on Montana PBS. The episode, titled “Timeless and True,” is hosted by longtime producer John Twiggs from Baker, the county seat of Fallon County in eastern Montana.
The program features several segments, including coverage of the local fair in Baker and a look at the town’s lake. It also recounts the story behind Baker’s claim to fame as home to the “world’s largest steer” during the 1920s.
Other stories include a visit to Limestone, where a man who is the son of a homesteading sheepherder has lived near Limestone Butte for 102 years with his wife, who is 97 years old. The couple continues to live independently.
The episode also takes viewers to Carter to meet a custom cowboy hat maker and follows an exploration along the Yellowstone River east of Billings to Pompeys Pillar—a sandstone formation that holds what is described as “the only physical evidence remaining from Lewis and Clark’s historic journey more than 200 years ago.” Additionally, there will be a segment revisiting Ninemile Schoolhouse and its annual Christmas tradition.
Producers for this installment are John Twiggs, Breanna McCabe, and Anna Rau. The University of Montana Broadcast Media Center produces “Backroads of Montana” for Montana PBS. According to information provided in the release, “Montana PBS is a joint service of Montana State University and UM.”
