The Montana State women’s tennis team lost 6-1 to Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho, on April 1. Lola Bean earned the only point for the Bobcats after her opponent retired during their singles match on court five.

This loss marked the end of Montana State’s road schedule for the regular season. The team will return home to Bozeman for three matches, starting with a contest against Northern Arizona on Friday, April 3.

“We battled until the end today, but Idaho State came up with good tennis in the big moments,” Montana State head coach Hailey Barrett said. “We have a great opportunity to bounce back quickly against Northern Arizona at home on Friday.”

Idaho State started strong by winning the doubles point. Asem Shoybek and Sydney Morris defeated Lola Bean and Kavya Khirwar on court three, while Veronika Zarovna and Stefanya Shalakhova beat Anna Wise and Terezie Stverakova on court one. The second doubles match was left unfinished with Angel Bean and Nia Gelashvili trailing Millie Day and Emmy Richards.

In singles play, Bean won her match after Morris retired in the third set. The Bengals secured victories in all other singles matches: Richards over Stverakova; Day over Wise; Shalakhova over Angel Bean; Shoybek over Gelashvili; and Zarovna over Khirwar following another retirement.

The Bobcats now prepare for their final home stretch of matches this season at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
