The Montana State women’s tennis team lost to Gonzaga with a score of 4-0 on Saturday at the Stevens Center in Spokane, Washington. The defeat brings Montana State’s season record to 3-8, while Gonzaga improves to 6-6.

Montana State dropped both completed doubles matches, allowing Gonzaga to secure the opening point. Lola Bean and Elle Middleton were defeated by Elizabeth Tindera and Diana Yanotovskaya, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles. In the top spot, Terezie Stverakova and Anna Wise lost a close match to Rose Hayes and Sveva Zerpelloni, 6-4. The second doubles match featuring Angel Bean and Nia Gelashvili was left unfinished with the Bobcats trailing 5-4.

In singles play, Gonzaga claimed three consecutive points for the win. Emily Robertson beat Anna Wise at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. On court four, Rose Hayes defeated Stverakova, 6-0, 6-1. Ella Nielsen secured the clinching point for Gonzaga with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Gelashvili at No. 2 singles. The remaining singles matches were left unfinished once the result was decided.

Montana State head coach Hailey Barrett commented on the match: “That was a very strong Gonzaga team we played today,” Barrett said. “We played some very strong doubles to start the match and had some great battles in singles. Overall, we learned a lot from this weekend, and we will come back stronger because of it. We will head back to Bozeman and put it some good work before we leave next weekend for our Spring Break trip in Portland and Seattle.”

Next on their schedule is a three-match road trip in the Pacific Northwest beginning Sunday, March 15 against Portland State in Beaverton, Oregon.
