The Montana State women’s golf team finished the first two rounds of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in 10th place with a combined score of 601, according to a March 18 update from the team.
The tournament, held at the Pearl at Kalauao in ‘Aiea, Hawaii, features a strong field. The Bobcats posted scores of 302 and 299 on the par-71 course during Tuesday’s opening day. Ashleigh Wilson leads Montana State individually, tied for 30th place at five-over-par after two rounds.
Head coach Brittany Basye said, “Again, we played gritty, but needed a few more putts to drop. We had too many bogeys and not enough birdies to get us into better numbers. Ashleigh and Maddie shooting 1-over is a good round. The course is really wet, so trying to judge yardages was a little tough. The good thing is we get to play one more round tomorrow. We need to play hard and make some putts.” Other top performers for Montana State include Maddie Montoya tied for 41st at nine-over-par and Norah Seidl sharing 46th place.
In the first round, Wilson shot a one-over-par 72 highlighted by birdies on holes No. 12 and No. 2 and several stretches of pars. Seidl recorded birdies on Nos. 15 and 2 during her round of 75 while Greeny ended her round with eight consecutive pars.
Montoya led the Bobcats in the second round with an even-par-72 that included an opening birdie on hole ten and only two bogeys throughout her round. Wilson and Eva Heinz each shot a second-round score of 75.
No. 2 ranked University of Southern California holds a significant lead over the rest of the field with a team score of twenty-two-under-par through thirty-six holes.
The Bobcats are scheduled to begin their final round Wednesday at noon Mountain Time in a shotgun start.
