The Montana State women’s golf team began its spring season with a 3.5-1.5 win over Wyoming at the Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, California, on Monday.
Eva Heinz, Sailor Graham, and Norah Seidl each won their matches to help secure the victory for Montana State at the Classic Club. The team will advance to face Washington State in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Montana State head coach Brittany Basye commented on the team’s performance: “Tomorrow, we have another opportunity to keep working on our games while getting to play a great golf course. Happy with the play from all of them today. They kept fighting no matter what. We have a new match tomorrow, and we will continue the gritty play.”
Heinz earned a 6&5 win over Elle Higgins by taking an early lead and maintaining it throughout her match. Graham secured a 5&4 victory against Emerson Purcell after building an advantage in the opening holes and closing out her match on No. 14.
Seidl clinched Montana State’s overall win with a 3&1 result over Kira Reisner after regaining momentum late in her round by winning five consecutive holes between Nos. 13 and 17.
Lauren Greeny halved her match with Kiley Reisner after both players exchanged leads throughout their round and finished all-square.
Maddie Montoya was defeated by Meghan Vogt, 3&2, rounding out Montana State’s lineup for this event.
Ashleigh Wilson also competed individually for Montana State and achieved a 3&2 win over Weber State’s Adley Nelson.

Montana State is scheduled to compete against Washington State in Tuesday’s semifinal round of the tournament, with tee times beginning at 11:18 a.m. MT.
