The Montana State women’s golf team finished as runner-up at the Bobcat Desert Classic on April 15, ending the regular season with a top-three finish at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona. The team posted a total score of 876 over three rounds, just three strokes behind Seattle University, which won the tournament.
This result marks Montana State’s sixth top-three finish of the 2025-26 season and their second consecutive top-three placement. The strong performance provides momentum for the team as they prepare for the upcoming Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament.
Eva Heinz led Montana State individually by finishing ninth with a score of two-over-par 218. Three other Bobcats placed in the top twenty: Lauren Greeny finished twelfth (five-over-par), while Norah Seidl and Ashleigh Wilson tied for nineteenth (six-over-par). In Wednesday’s final round, Heinz carded five birdies and played nine straight bogey-free holes from hole eight through sixteen. Seidl recorded birdies on holes four, thirteen, and seventeen. Montoya went bogey-free on her last sixteen holes and finished twenty-third overall. Greeny made six consecutive par-or-better holes during her round.
Head coach Brittany Basye said, “Obviously wasn’t the finish we were expecting, but we’re going take the positives from this tournament and use them as momentum to get us ready for the Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament.” Basye added that preparing for high-pressure situations is key: “We have high expectations, and we need to figure a little more out about ourselves in the next couple days about big pressure situations… It’s the biggest tournament of the year, and we’ve been preparing since last August for this one.”
Seattle University secured first place with a score of nine-over-par 873. Utah Tech (878), Wyoming (880), and North Dakota State (882) rounded out the top five teams. Individually, Wyoming’s Kiley Reisner won medalist honors with a five-under-par total over three rounds.
Montana State will compete next at Wigwam Golf Club Blue Course during the Big Sky Championships scheduled for April 20-22.
