Montana State University will host the American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8) for middle school students in January. The event is organized by the Science Math Resource Center within the university’s College of Education, Health and Human Development. The AMC 8 is part of a national series developed by the Mathematical Association of America and aims to engage students in advanced algebra and geometry, as well as problem-solving.
The competition will take place online at Montana State University’s Bozeman campus on Tuesday, January 27, starting at 4:30 p.m. Registration is required by January 19. Participation is free for Montana middle schoolers due to support from the MSU College of Education, Health and Human Development.
Results from the AMC 8 are compared nationally and are intended to encourage interest in mathematics among participants. Students or parents seeking more information or wishing to register can visit American Mathematics Competitions or contact the Science Math Resource Center at smrc@montana.edu or 406-994-7476.
