Montana State University will host its annual Student Research Celebration on May 1, featuring more than 220 undergraduate and graduate students presenting their research in the Strand Union Ballrooms. The event is free and open to the public, with poster sessions starting at 10 a.m., followed by afternoon presentations at 1 p.m. and concluding at 3 p.m.
The celebration highlights the breadth of student research across fields such as agriculture, engineering, health care, and music. Valerie Dewey, Undergraduate Scholars Program coordinator, said: “This event can be eye opening and hugely inspiring for participants as well as visitors. I always come away from the event feeling hopeful for the future, seeing all the creative and vital research happening on campus.”
MSU leads in research funding within Montana with annual expenditures exceeding $288 million according to its official website. During the fiscal year 2024-25 alone, $14.5 million supported research by both graduate and undergraduate students involved in programs like the Undergraduate Scholars Program.
Anna Tuttle, director of Undergraduate Research at MSU said: “Students will strengthen their identity as emerging researchers by sharing with peers, faculty, staff and the public — and the university will have the opportunity to share the research we do here as a land-grant university.”
MSU ranks among the top five percent of global universities per rankings from the Center for World University Rankings according to its official website. The university enrolls about 17,165 students split evenly between residents and nonresidents as reported by MSU’s official site, while also contributing through volunteer efforts aimed at enhancing lives across Montana according to its official website.
