Montana State University to hold annual madrigal dinner performances in December

For two evenings in December, Montana State University will host its 61st annual Madrigal Dinner, transforming the Strand Union Building ballrooms into a setting inspired by the Renaissance. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, and Sunday, Dec. 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The School of Music and College of Arts and Architecture are organizing the event. In addition to the Bozeman performances, a separate feast will be held in Big Sky on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Bucks T-4 Restaurant.

Musicians dressed in period costumes will perform skits and sing traditional holiday carols associated with the twelve days of Christmas. The program features the Montana State Youth Chorale along with MSU’s Voces Luminis and the Montanans choirs. Attendees at the Bozeman dinner will be served a pork loin meal or vegetarian option prepared by University Catering, along with desserts and wassail.

Kirk Aamot, professor in the School of Music and organizer of the event, said: “The Madrigal Dinner is one of the oldest holiday events in the Gallatin Valley. The students love it because they get to dress up and entertain the guests, and it’s always a very festive evening.”

Tickets for the Bozeman performances are priced at $45 each and go on sale Friday, Nov. 7 through the Bobcat Ticket Office at 406-994-CATS. Tickets for Big Sky’s feast cost $125 and can be purchased via the Arts Council of Big Sky’s website.
