Montana State University announced on Mar. 9 that registration is now open for two summer camps in July designed to help young writers develop their skills. The camps are available for students entering third through twelfth grades and will include field trips, writing games, and workshops led by local writers from various genres.

The initiative aims to provide hands-on learning experiences and foster creativity among youth participants. Faculty from the Yellowstone Writing Project, part of the university’s Department of English, will lead the sessions. Families and friends will be invited to a final showcase on July 17 to celebrate the campers’ work.

Writers entering fifth through twelfth grades can attend the Youth Writing Camp from July 13-17, with daily sessions running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $350 for commuters and $875 for those staying in an on-campus residence hall, with a $25 late fee applied after June 1. For younger students entering third or fourth grade, the Young Writer’s Camp will take place from July 14-17 at a cost of $300; this camp does not offer overnight lodging and increases to $325 after June 1.
