Montana State University’s Campus Recreation was named “Rec of the Month” by Campus Rec magazine, according to an announcement on April 13. The recognition highlights the university’s Student Wellness Center and its role in supporting student health and wellbeing.

Campus Rec magazine published an article on April 2 that features photos and a detailed overview of MSU’s Student Wellness Center. The facility, which opened in August 2024, brings together three departments focused on holistic health for students. According to author Gracie Moore, “After several years of design and construction, MSU Campus Recreation moved into the new 162,000-square-foot Student Wellness Center in August 2024 — along with the university’s Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Wellness, and the Health and Human Development Performance Labs.” Moore wrote that the center includes climbing walls, wood courts, a multipurpose activity court, modern fitness equipment areas, an indoor track, swimming pools with leisure amenities such as saunas and a movie screen for dive-in movie nights. There are also four fitness studios offering classes like yoga and martial arts.

The article also describes other resources such as a Bike and Ski Shop where students can learn maintenance skills through workshops. Outdoor facilities include a large turf field complex available to students as well as faculty and staff.

Spencer Sorensen, director of Campus Recreation at MSU said: “MSU offers its students world-class facilities and engaging programming. That’s been true for a long time, and even more so since 2024 when we opened our beautiful state-of-the-art Student Wellness Center facility.”

Programming highlights listed by the magazine include events like Vertical Rush climbing competitions and Bobcat Summer Youth Camp for children from first through sixth grade. Fun facts mentioned are that MSU offers over 25 club sports teams, nearly 30 group fitness classes weekly, with about 2,100 people using campus recreation services daily. The magazine stated on Instagram: “MSU Campus Recreation gives students a variety of ways to stay active, connected and well.”
