The Montana State track and field program will open its outdoor season at the Cat-Griz Dual/Al Manuel Invitational, scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Missoula, Mont., according to a March 26 announcement.
This event marks the start of the spring competition schedule for Montana State’s athletes. The meet will feature competitors from six Montana schools: Carroll College, Dawson Community College, Montana, Montana State, Montana Tech, and Montana Western. Events will take place at Dornblaser Field on the University of Montana campus.
Field events are set to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday with women’s hammer throwers Jenavieve Lynch, Sydney Brewster, Sydney Mattfeldt, and Maggie Hillis competing. On Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m., the women’s discus event will include Emma Brensdal, Brewster, and Lynch. Running events commence with the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:15 a.m., featuring Hannah Perrin, Annie Kaul, and Niamh Motley.
A total of 66 Bobcat athletes—33 men and 33 women—will participate in this weekend’s meet. The men’s roster includes Ethan Anderson and Noah Barbery among others; while Tilde Bjerager and Emma Brensdal headline the women’s squad.
Montana State concluded its indoor season two weeks ago when Hailey Coey placed eleventh in long jump (6.24 meters) and Sydney Brewster finished twelfth in shot put (16.96 meters) at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville. Both earned Second-Team All-America honors as reported by team officials. The Bobcats recently secured runner-up finishes for both men’s and women’s teams at the Big Sky Indoor Championships held Feb. 26-28 in Pocatello.
Looking ahead after this weekend’s invitational meet in Missoula, Bobcat athletes plan to compete across eight regular-season meets over five weekends—including stops at Stanford Invitational (April 3-4), Mike Fanelli Track Classic (April 3-4), Bryan Clay Invitational (April 16-18), Pacific Coast Invitational (April 16), Beach Invitational (April 17-18), Bengal Invitational (May 1-2), Tom Gage Classic (May 8), leading up to postseason championships beginning May 13.
