The Montana State track and field team recorded three new program top-10 performances in distance events on April 18 during competitions in Southern California. The Bobcats competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa and the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State.
The significance of these results is seen as several athletes improved their standings within Montana State’s record books, demonstrating ongoing progress for the program.
Annie Kaul, Sophia Miller, and Madi Siana each achieved top-10 times in school history. Kaul improved her own No. 3 all-time mark in the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.47 to finish 61st, while Miller posted a time of 2:10.57 for the tenth-fastest mark ever by a Bobcat, finishing 113th. Siana moved to eighth place on Montana State’s all-time list in the women’s 5,000 meters after running a personal best of 16:35.03—over thirty seconds faster than her previous best—to finish fourteenth in her section.
Other notable performances included Kalei Moravitz finishing with a time of 2:08.38 for eightieth place in the women’s invite section of the Bryan Clay Invitational; Blaise Snow clocking an impressive time of 1:49.53 to finish fifty-third among men; Mario Oblad running a season-best time of 1:50.68 for twenty-seventh place; and Jackson Fagerlin posting a result of 1:51.53 for fiftieth.
In field events at Long Beach State’s Beach Invitational, Easton Hatleberg threw a personal best distance of over sixty-one meters (200 feet, four inches) to claim eleventh place in men’s hammer throw invite competition while Matt Furdyk followed closely behind with twelfth place (60.82m/199-6). On the women’s side, Jenavieve Lynch finished thirteenth with her throw measuring just under fifty-five meters (54.83m/179-10).
Montana State will continue its weekend competition across three different meets on Saturday—including more action at both invitationals as well as participation at Mt. SAC Relays—with several athletes scheduled to compete throughout the day.
