Montana State University’s Helen E. Copeland Gallery is presenting a new exhibition titled “Standing in the River: Recent Paintings and Sculptures by Sara Mast.” The show will run through Friday, Sept. 19, at the gallery located on the second floor of Haynes Hall on MSU’s campus.

A reception and artist talk are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m., where attendees can meet the artist and view her work. Light refreshments will be available during the event.

The exhibit displays 13 works by Sara Mast, who has shown her art both nationally and internationally. Her pieces are included in over 40 corporate and private collections worldwide. The collection includes oil and cold wax paintings that are paired with sculptures or incorporate plasma-enhanced melter glass—a material produced from a process that breaks down waste.

“The paintings, reliefs and sculptural objects investigate how meaning lies in a material dialogue between the technological transformation of human detritus and the visceral qualities of painting,” Mast said.

More information about the exhibit or reception can be found by contacting the School of Art at 406-994-4501 or visiting http://art.montana.edu/copeland-gallery.
