Montana State University’s men’s tennis team lost to Idaho State on Saturday, March 28, with a final score of 6-1. Freshman Ethan Masselis returned from injury and secured the Bobcats’ only point by winning his singles match in straight sets.

The match was significant for Montana State as it marked Masselis’s return after missing several weeks due to injury. His victory at No. 6 singles improved his season record to 6-1, but the overall team fell to a record of 5-10 and now stands at 1-2 in Big Sky Conference play.

Idaho State began strongly by capturing the doubles point and quickly moved ahead when Oumar Diallo of Montana State retired during his first set at the third position. The Bengals clinched their win with close matches at the top two spots; Sep De Visser defeated Andre Stewart in a tiebreaker while Valentin De Pellegrin overcame Yassin Elaroussy in three sets. Additional wins for Idaho State came from Hayden Ciguenza over Camille Chantron and Rafael Maya against Eddie Biss.

Looking ahead, Montana State will host its first home matches in two months next weekend. The Bobcats are scheduled to play Northern Arizona on Friday at 1 p.m., followed by Weber State on Sunday at 10 a.m., both taking place at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.

The result reflects ongoing challenges for Montana State this season but also highlights individual successes such as Masselis’s performance.
