Montana State lost a 4-1 men’s tennis match to Cal Poly in Boise on March 14, but the Bobcats secured the doubles point with strong performances. Head coach Mateus Ceolin said, “We were really tough in doubles. I’m proud of the way we played there. We can build on that. We accomplished some good things this weekend, and now it’s back to Big Sky play.”

The match began with Montana State’s Andre Stewart and Yassin Elaroussy defeating Jovan Lubbe and Leo Matthysen 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. After Cal Poly evened the score at No. 2 doubles, Oumar Diallo and Max Calaquian clinched the doubles point for Montana State by beating Jack Cross and Sean Kamyshev 6-3.

In singles play, Cal Poly took control by winning matches at both the top and bottom spots of the lineup. Lubbe defeated Elaroussy at No. 1 singles, while Matthysen beat Calaquian at No. 6 singles. The Mustangs then secured victories at No. 5 (Aaron Eliscu over Eddie Biss) and No. 4 (Jack Cross over Camille Chantron) to finish off the team win.

Montana State’s season record is now 4-8 following this match against Cal Poly. The Bobcats will return to Big Sky Conference action when they face Idaho on Saturday, March 21.

Ceolin said he was encouraged by his team’s performance in doubles and looked forward to building on those positives as conference play resumes.
