Montana State University’s men’s tennis team will play against Idaho on Saturday, March 20, following a week-long break from competition.

The upcoming match is significant for the Bobcats, who have had a demanding schedule with six matches in three states over a 15-day period. Head coach Mateus Ceolin said the recent pause has been beneficial for the team. “We had a very good week of work,” Ceolin said.

Idaho enters the contest with an overall record of 8-10 and is undefeated in league play at 2-0. The Vandals recently secured home conference wins against Idaho State and Sacramento State. Senior Chetanna Amadike leads Idaho with an 11-5 singles record, mostly playing at the top spot, while sophomore Gabriel Moroder holds an 8-7 record primarily at No. 4 singles.

Ceolin described Idaho as a team that favors aggressive tactics on the court. “They are a team that like to play aggressive tennis,” he said. “They like to serve big and be aggressive on the first ball, and they transition to the net extremely well. For us to be successful, we will need to play with good depth and do a good job with passing shots. We will need to create our own opportunities and play with courage to take them.”

During their recent road trip, Montana State managed one win against DePaul in Boise but lost matches to Portland State, Utah, and Boise State. Ceolin said that Saturday’s match at Idaho and next week’s game at Idaho State present valuable chances for improvement. “We’re working hard to get a win on the road,” he said. “We’re looking forward to these opportunities.”
