Portland State University secured a 4-3 victory over Montana State in the Big Sky men’s tennis opener held in Portland on Saturday. The deciding point came when Edoardo Cravanzola of Portland State defeated Montana State sophomore Camille Chantron in a three-set match.

The Vikings began by winning the doubles point, with Pandit and Ignacia Ruiz defeating Chantron and Eddie Biss 6-4, while Cravanzola and Maas Schotanus overcame Andre Stewart and Oumar Diallo 6-3. This early lead helped Portland State build momentum.

Montana State’s Oumar Diallo claimed a straight-set win at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4. However, Portland State answered with wins at both the top and bottom singles positions. Aarjun Pandit beat Bobcat junior Andre Stewart 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Hampus Hagglund edged out MSU sophomore Eddie Biss 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6.

The Bobcats narrowed the gap as sophomore Yassin Elaroussy earned a hard-fought victory at No. 2 singles (7-5, 6-4), followed by freshman David Ismanescu’s three-set win (6-4, 6-7, 6-0). These results set up the final match between Cravanzola and Chantron to decide the team outcome.

With this loss, Montana State’s record moves to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in Big Sky Conference play. Portland State improves to a season record of 4-6 overall and starts conference play at 1-0.

Order of finish for singles matches was: positions 3, 1, 6, 2, 5, then 4; for doubles: positions were played in order of courts three, two, then one.
