Montana State University’s men’s basketball team ended its season with a 78-74 loss to the University of Idaho in the second round of the Big Sky Tournament on Sunday night at Idaho Central Arena in Boise. The Bobcats, seeded second, finished their season with an overall record of 18-14.
Jeremiah Davis led Montana State with a career-high 22 points, making nine out of ten shots. Christian King added 21 points on nine-of-thirteen shooting, and Jed Miller contributed 18 points. Together, the trio scored 61 of Montana State’s total points.
Head coach Matt Logie reflected on the team’s effort and character following the game. “Hats off to Idaho,” Logie said. “They played a terrific game. Obviously, when your season comes to an end, there are so many things to reflect upon, but the thing that just stands out the most about this year’s Bobcat team, these two guys [Patrick McMahon and Jed Miller] in particular, is the way that they’ve inspired their teammates and our community with the resilience that they’ve shown in overcoming so much. I think all of us that were a part of this group take from it just an incredible amount of gratitude for the journey we got to go on together because of the way these guys loved each other and kept supporting each other and stepping up to the challenge when adversities hit, injuries hit. This is a special senior class that has really impacted the culture of our basketball family. I think all of us will look back on this and wonder what could have been, but to come a possession or two away from a regular-season title and show the grit and determination that they have throughout the season has just been incredibly inspirational. You hate to see that end because you just want more time. You just want more time with them.”
The first half was closely contested until Davis made a three-pointer at 13:14 to give Montana State its largest lead at five points. Idaho responded with a run to take control before Montana State regained momentum late in the half behind scoring from Miller and King. At halftime, Montana State led by four.
In the second half, Davis extended Montana State’s lead early before Idaho rallied back. The Vandals took control after Isaiah Brickner’s layup put them ahead for good with just over five minutes remaining. Despite coming within two points late in regulation, Montana State was unable to close the gap as Idaho secured victory.
Idaho shot over 56 percent from the field compared to Montana State’s nearly 45 percent shooting rate. While both teams had strong performances beyond the arc—Montana State made eleven three-pointers—the Vandals dominated inside scoring and received more production from their bench players.
Davis also led his team in rebounds (six), steals (two), blocks (one), and added two assists during his standout performance.
