The Montana State track and field team received three Big Sky Athlete of the Week awards after their performances at the recent Big Sky Tuner meet. Sydney Brewster was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her school and conference-record mark in the shot put. Easton Hatleberg earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after securing his third shot put win this season. Kalei Moravitz took home Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors for the first time, breaking the school’s 800-meter record.

These recognitions bring Montana State’s total to 10 Big Sky weekly honors during this indoor season. Hailey Coey previously received Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her near-record long jump at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on February 13, as well as earlier honors for record-breaking jumps at other meets. Hatleberg had also been recognized earlier in February after a winning performance at the Carignan Classic, while Brewster previously won her first weekly honor following a school shot put record at the Stacy Dragila Invite in January. Sam Ells (mile) and a women’s relay team were also awarded Track Athlete of the Week titles after their performances at previous meets.

Brewster set her latest record on February 19 at the Big Sky Tuner with an opening throw of 17.25 meters (56 feet, 7.25 inches), surpassing the previous Big Sky Conference record by nearly nine inches. She currently ranks eleventh nationally in shot put and leads within her conference.

Hatleberg recorded a mark of 18.34 meters (60-2) in Bozeman, coming within half an inch of his personal best and securing his third victory in shot put this season by almost seven feet.

Moravitz won the women’s 800-meter run with a converted time of 2:06.04, breaking both school and facility records and improving upon the previous school record by more than one-and-a-half seconds.

The Bobcats will begin postseason competition at the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships from February 26 to 28 in Pocatello, Idaho. Qualifying athletes will then compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 13-14.
