Laurel Desnick Here With the Park County Update

0Comments

Hi friends, Laurel Desnick here with the Park County update for September 16, 2022.

As we enjoy this beautiful fall weather it is time to start looking ahead to winter and the upcoming cold and flu season.

Last winter flu testing was done in conjunction with more than a million COVID tests and the U.S. saw the lowest number of flu cases in years.

We might not be so lucky this year. Early reports from the Southern Hemisphere, where flu season is now coming to an end, suggest this might be an especially difficult season, especially for those over 65 and young children and teens.

The Health Department does have plenty of flu vaccine, and is recommending vaccination for ages 6 months and up. We will begin vaccinating throughout the county in early October, including in the schools, long term care facilities, businesses and for the general public.

Our first vaccine clinic is Wednesday October 5, from 10 am to 1 pm at 105 W. Lewis in Livingston. We also have plans for clinics in Gardiner, the Shields Valley and Cooke City. We will continue clinics weekly through October and November. Please try to get your vaccine by the end of November in advance of the peak influenza season which generally occurs during December and January.

Each of these clinics will also offer the new Covid 19 booster specific for the Omicron variant, which is the most common variant in the country. The booster is offered to anyone 12 or older who has had their last Covid vaccination more than 2 months ago, or their last Covid infection more than 3 months ago.

Please check the Health Department Website for the most current details and online registration. Walk-ins are also accepted.

The county is wrapping up our flood response in the next couple of weeks. Before then, we want to be sure there are no unmet needs remaining. If you are displaced from your home, struggling to complete home repairs or have other concerns that need to be addressed before winter, please give us a call at

406 222-4145.

Thank you, Park County
