About 14.9 percent of the 3,233 degrees and certificates handed out by Montana State University in 2017-18 were to students in engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency’s National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Bozeman conferred 420 bachelor’s degrees and 53 master’s degrees in engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor’s degree in general business/commerce. Data shows the school gave out 275 bachelor’s degrees in general business/commerce, followed by 215 bachelor’s degrees in registered nursing/registered nurse and 202 bachelor’s degrees in general family and consumer sciences/human sciences.

The university enrolled 16,814 students for 2017-18, including 14,851 in undergraduate programs and 1,963 in graduate programs.
