Four Montana State University women’s basketball players were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team on March 24. The honorees are junior Ella Johnson and sophomores Taylee Chirrick, Teagan Erickson, and Addison Harris.
The recognition highlights student-athletes who have played in at least 90 percent of their team’s games or started two-thirds of contests while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 out of 4.0. Eligible athletes must also be at least sophomores.
In addition to earning Academic All-District honors, Chirrick is advancing to the national Academic All-America ballot as one of only 96 student-athletes considered nationwide. Voting for this honor is conducted by CSC members from colleges and universities across the United States.
Chirrick, a sophomore from Roberts, Montana, received Big Sky Most Valuable Player honors and became just the second women’s basketball player in league history to win both MVP and Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. She ranks second in Division I with an average of 4.24 steals per game and holds a scoring average of 17.7 points per game, which is second highest in the Big Sky Conference.
Johnson averages 5.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while leading her team with 42 blocked shots this season. Erickson contributes an average of 5.8 points and three rebounds per game for Montana State University. Harris was named First Team All-Big Sky, ranking second on her team with an average of 13.8 points along with four rebounds per contest.
The CSC will announce its First, Second, and Third Team Academic All-Americas for the upcoming year on April 15.
