The City of Bozeman announced on Apr. 16 that it will offer a free, in-person watershed-wise landscaping academy in partnership with WaterSense certified professionals from Green Gardens Group. The series aims to help residents learn about sustainable landscaping practices and how to design gardens that use less water.
The initiative is designed to educate the community about the benefits of creating landscapes that are both environmentally friendly and cost-effective. By attending, residents can gain practical knowledge for building healthy soil, capturing rainwater, selecting climate-appropriate plants, and using efficient irrigation systems.
Water Conservation Technician Kori Navarro said, “We have been hosting webinar classes every spring to inform residents of these topics, but last year we pivoted and added one in-person workshop. The workshop was incredible; homeowners were able to engage in real time and go home with fresh ideas. We saw a huge benefit to the in-person aspect and are now hosting a series of classes in person. This year’s landscaping academy will be incredibly informative and useful for those looking for garden inspiration. Attendees will walk out with their own workbooks on the class topic and knowledge on how to create a gorgeous landscape that thrives on minimal water and is more resilient to our ever-changing climate.”
The three-day program consists of five classes that build upon each other. Participants will leave with new skills for creating landscapes that sequester carbon, reduce pollution, restore soil health, lower water use, and attract wildlife.
Classes begin at the Bozeman Public Library at 6:15 p.m. on May 7. Additional sessions will take place at the Bozeman Public Safety Center Community Room on May 9 at 9 a.m., and May 12 at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required for all events.
