Montana State thrower Sydney Brewster broke the Montana State discus record and won two events at the Bengal Invitational, according to a May 2 announcement from the university. The meet, hosted by Idaho State in Pocatello, marked the end of the road portion of the regular season for the Bobcats.

The performance is significant as it included six event wins and five improvements to program top-10 marks for Montana State. The team will return home for its regular-season finale on May 8 before preparing for postseason competition.

“The throws group had some great performances over the two-day meet,” Lyle Weese, Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, said. “Certainly, Sydney Brewster’s school record in the discus was a highlight of the weekend.”

Brewster set her new mark in discus with a throw of 51.36 meters (168 feet, 6 inches) on her fifth attempt and also claimed victory in shot put with a throw of 17.08 meters (56-0.50), her second-best result this season. Emma Brensdal finished second in discus with a mark of 46.08 meters (151-2). In men’s shot put, Easton Hatleberg moved to second all-time in program history with an 18.39-meter (60-4) throw while Matt Furdyk achieved a personal best to place fifth.

Tilde Bjerager made her outdoor debut in the women’s 400-meters by finishing third with a converted time of 53.43 seconds—third fastest ever at Montana State. Nash Coley improved his own No. 4 time in program history by winning the men’s 400m hurdles finals with a converted time of 51.71 seconds.

In other results, Giulia Gandolfi led a sweep for Montana State women’s hurdlers as she won with a converted time under one minute; Annie Kaul and Sabine Brueck followed closely behind for second and third place finishes respectively.

Looking ahead, Montana State will host its final regular-season meet—the Tom Gage Classic—on May 8 at home where seniors will be honored before preparations begin for next week’s Big Sky Outdoor Championships.
