The City of Bozeman announced on April 8 that it is beginning the process of updating its Urban Forest Management Plan and is inviting community members to participate in a virtual public engagement meeting on Tuesday, April 28, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration for the event is available at engage.bozeman.net/urbanforest.

The update aims to build upon the city’s existing framework from 2016 to ensure effective and sustainable management of Bozeman’s urban forest. The plan will serve as a guide for the Forestry Division’s operations, planning, and outreach efforts. It will incorporate both professional analysis and feedback gathered from city staff, officials, stakeholders, and residents through a series of meetings.

Key areas addressed in the updated plan include infrastructure and management practices, future planning and development strategies, community involvement opportunities, as well as approaches for dealing with insects, disease impacts, and disaster preparedness.

“Our urban forest is a key part of what makes Bozeman such a beautiful, healthy, and safe place to live,” said Mitch Overton, Parks & Recreation Director for Bozeman. “We are a community that cares about our trees, and we’re eager to hear more from our residents about their priorities as we update our plan.”

Community engagement will continue throughout the development process. Residents can learn more about the project or provide feedback at upcoming events or by reviewing draft versions before final approval by the Bozeman City Commission.
