The City of Bozeman announced on Apr. 13 that it will continue its partnership with Green Gardens Group to offer a free, three-day Watershed Wise Landscaping academy for local homeowners this May. The classes are designed to help residents transform their yards into water smart landscapes and will be held at the Bozeman Public Library and the Bozeman Public Safety Center.
This initiative is significant as about 40 percent of Bozeman’s treated water during July and August is used for irrigating lawns and landscapes. By providing education on efficient landscaping practices, the city aims to reduce water consumption while supporting healthy, sustainable gardens.
The academy includes three in-person sessions: “Healthy Soils and Edible Landscapes” on Thursday, May 7 from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at the library; “Select Climate Ready Plants Like a Pro & Design a New Landscape” on Saturday, May 9 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Public Safety Center; and “How Much Water Does a Garden Need & Landscape Installation on a Budget” on Tuesday, May 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., also at the Public Safety Center.
Topics covered will range from soil health and composting methods to plant selection strategies, landscape design considerations, watering practices, and cost-effective installation techniques. Attendees can ask questions about their own yards or gardens and receive class-specific workbooks.
Registration is required but all classes are free of charge.
